1792 JOHN WESLEY. Beautifully Patinated Enoch Wood Bust of the Founder of Methodism. Congregational Brown’s popularity may have beenI have handled a few early Staffordshire busts of Wesley over the years. This might be my favorite. Each example was individually painted, the style and quality of the finishing varying dramatically. This example, painted to look ancient, as though gesso had broken away revealing wood underneath, or perhaps a marble bust beautifully aged by time, is truly unique. I don't recall seeing one like it before and it fits the antiquarian library perfectly.
