It is used for a variety of dishes in Mexico including ponche, an alcoholic fruit punch traditionally served warm around the Christmas and New Years Eve period. Quite easy to grow, it is not a demanding tree and can be grown in a variety of soils. Showy white flowers are a bonus in spring.
