made by "John Brocklehurst" from pure wool Scottish cloth in a checked weave in shades of brown
The dress is in good condition overall - there is discolouration / yellowing at the armpits - there is an almost-invisible seamed repair to a tear on the back left of the skirt
it is cut very much like British military greatcoats of this period - double-breasted with generous collar & broad lapels
a small hole on the chest & scattered mottled marks on the back - there is a small hole to the edge of the ivory side of the collar (arrowed) which is more or less hidden when the collar is down
this is actually a printing defect along the selvage which is slightly visible on the outside but more apparent on the inside (see last photo)
