The Thraex gladiator was the traditional foe of the Murmillo gladiator. Originally based upon the warriors of Thrace, he was kitted out with a small, squarish scutum shield (parmula), a short, curved sword (sica), a pair of greaves covering the area from the ankles to the knees, and a helmet usually topped with a griffin shaped crest. 3D
